In the last few weeks LT auditors visited 402 eco-labelled tourist businesses (with 65,000 beds/places) all across Italy to check compliance with criteria and measures. A s a result, 23 businesses were selected for their excellent practices in Lombardy (3), Ligury (2), Emilia Romagna (7), Tuscany (4), Abruzzo (2), Rome (1), Campania (2), Salento (1) and Sicily (1). A special group mention was given to 9 businesses in Sardinia. Among them not only hotels &campsites, but also B&B, agritourisms, inns and restaurants. “Even in this severe economic crisis - says Legambiente Turismo president Luigi Rambelli - the environment is increasingly a competitive factor. Landscape, nature and heritage and food quality are still saving Italy’s tourist industry.” Further to complying with agreed LT measures for sustainable management, awarded businesses showed additional commitment by adopting special policies for environmental protection and promotion of local destinations or as “Climate Friends” through selected energy investment (FV, solar panels, energy controls etc.). Find below the list of tourist member businesses that shall receive their awards in the course of selected events in the forthcoming 2012 promotional season. Legambiente Turismo auditors also issued several negative notes. Warnings with improving recommendations were sent to 7 members, while other 6 members shall be excluded from the label in 2012.
