Bathing establishments in Riccione Safety and comfort in bathing is already the standard along the Adriatic Coast and is a plus for holiday in Romagna. All tourists coming to the Riviera Romagnola - independently of the accommodation they choose or the length of their stay - are given the opportunity to go to clean and safe beaches with all facilities. No doubt, here we find the best standard that a mass tourist destination can offer in beach services. But now a further step is required to improve the environmental quality in the beach service management by reducing per capita impacts in terms of resource consumption (energy and specially water) and waste production. Let's just think how nice it is to have a cool drink or an ice-cream at the beach, to take a refreshing shower after bathing or to have access to clean toilettes. But then we can also imagine how many millions gallons of fresh water are necessary to supply the necessary comfort to thousands of bathers or the heaps of empty plastic bottles and other waste which have to be collected along the shore at the end of the day. Then we understand that there is a big space for cutting consumption and waste levels without lessening the tourists' welfare. A new project improving the environmental management of bathing services is going on at the beaches in Riccione since 2002. The scheme basically aims at reducing the environmental impacts of these tourist businesses: the Guidelines by Legambiente therefore focuses on separate collection of waste and energy and water savings.. But there are aspects which provide for higher levels of safety and comfort to bathers: noise abatement, parking facilities for bicycles, a reading corner for second-hand magazines and books etc. Other guidelines offer a general information on sea and weather conditions, natural and built heritage, gastronomy and healthy food as well as other cultural events in Riccione. Guests at the beach are the main players in this scheme since their eco-friendly behaviours and their increasing environmental awareness shall definitely contribute to achieving the final objective. Then they'll be able to make this scheme by Legambiente all the more successful by expressing their satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) in a simple customer card, which is available in each bathing establishment joining Legambiente Turismo. The bathing establishments joining Legambiente Turismo show an adhesive plate with the logo and the year of membership, a four language table showing the Guidelines and the yellow flag with the green swan.
