Bellaria Igea Marina

The Project - Bellaria Igea Marina is where the "Cavalluccio Marino", one of the first experiences to improve environmental management in tourist accommodation, had started and then joined the wider and innovative project of "Recommended Hotels on account of their commitment to environmental protection".

Since 2001, thanks to the group of hoteliers who agreed to develop and implement the Guidelines indicated by Legambiente, Bellaria Igea Marina stands out for its innovative practice of setting progressive targets to be updated year after year.

The Place - It lies along the coast in the plain north of Rimini. After the Malatesta's rule in the Middle Ages, when a castle was also built here, it was held first by the Church Vicarage of S.Arcangelo and then by the Holy Seat and the Medici. A Saracen watch tower, once a rampart against the pirates, is now the symbol of this town which became a commune in 1956. Its long-established bathing tradition recommends Bellaria Igea Marina as one of the most suitable resorts where to enjoy a comfortable seaside holiday.

Among the agreed commitments are waste reduction; the recycling of materials through garbage sorting; water saving; installation of energy saving lamps; meals prepared with foodstuffs containing neither chemicals nor genetically modified organisms, when known. Typical Romagna dishes will be offered to guests every day. An agreement with TRAM, the local bus company, has already been formed to sell tickets in hotels, while bicycles are available to hotel guests free of charge to reduce traffic and pollution. Other commitments concern the promotion of visits to local environmental and artistic features and noise abating. As agreed in the protocol, compliance with these commitments is to be regularly checked.
