Lido di Camaiore

The Project - In 2005 in Lido of Camaiore a new project for improving the environmental quality of local accommodation facilities was started by Legambiente through a protocol agreement with the Associazione Albergatori. As a result, a group of hotels joined the ecolabel Legambiente Turismo to adopt practical measures for the improvement of environmental policies and facilities in the destination..

The Place - Lido of Camaiore is the modern beach of the old town of Camaiore. With its kilometre long seashore, it is located in pleasant and quiet surroundings between the resorts of Viareggio and Pietrasanta. The destination is well-known because of wide beaches cultivated hills and the peaks of Alpi Apuane that neatly stand out against deep blue skies. Bathing establishments are most trendy and comfy and can be reached through a superelevated promenade with blooming flower beds and palms as well as shops, bars and attractions at both sides.

The Start -up - In spring 2005 a training course for member businesses was held partly by the local Circle Legambiente Versilia - on local nature, culture heritage and gastronomy - and partly by the Scientific Desk of Legambiente Turismo for the remaining sections of the General Guidelines (resource use and environmental communication). During this training phase businesses were assisted in filling single check-lists, a necessary step to set up local levels of required measure compliance for the tourist season.
