Cilento The Project: Legambiente signed two protocols agreements in Cilento to improve the environmental quality of the local tourist offer by means of Legambiente Turismo, its ecolabelling scheme for accommodation businesses. The first protocol was signed by Legambiente Campania and the Municipality of Ascea, while the second was also signed by the Comunità Montana di Lambro e Mingardo, the Forum permanente per il Turismo della Comunità Montana Lambro e Mingardo, the Associazione albergatori ASS.AL.PA. of Palinuro, the Ass.O.Tu.R (Associazione degli Operatori Turistici della Ricettività "Golfo DI Velia"), the Associazione degli Operatori Turistici of Camerota, the Consorzio degli Operatori Turistici "Costa del Cilento" of Palinuro. This large number of partners shows how much local tourist operators are interested in practicable schemes to sustainability. The Place: the Cilento are gives tourists a wide range of reasons for spending their holiday there. A varied geological structure makes this land interesting from many points of view: a wonderful shore and sea on one hand, trekking options in the mountains, woods and caves on the other, and then sightseeing at archaeological sites, ancient salt roads and medieval ruins. Besides those lively sea resorts with a transparent sea, there are the fascinating vestiges of the Magna Grecia in Paestum, Velia and Ascea and in many other smaller but not less extraordinary sites, as a proof of the magnificent millenary heritage of Cilento. A warm sense of hospitality and the excellent food and wine make a holiday in Cilento a real discovery. Joining the scheme: the range of accommodation businesses which applied to join Legambiente Turismo scheme also reflects this precious variety. There are camping sites, hotels, residences, holiday farms and Bed & Breakfast, but all of them share the commitment to put eco-friendly behaviours and practices in the Decalogue into practice to help reduce the environmental impacts by their own businesses and to offer their holiday-makers more quality and awareness.
