Corno alle Scale
The Project - Legambiente with the support of the Province of Bologna and the Regional Parks of Emilia Romagna (including Abbazia di Monteveglio, Gessi Bolognesi, Laghi di Suviana and Brasimone, Monte Sole and Corno alle Scale) has launched a new sustainable tourism initiative. Its objective is to promote a feasible accommodation model for mountain areas which offers country life, sports, spas, gourmet food and wine, natural and cultural assets, recreation and fun.
This scheme for the establishment of an eco-friendly tourist accommodation network in mountain and hill areas, with environmental quality as marking feature, may be considered a national prototype applying to all areas involved in the APE (Apennine Park of Europe).
The place - In the area of the Corno alle Scale Park a group of hotels in Lizzano in Belvedere and Vidiciatico have already agreed to participate in this first local experience with environmentally conscious accommodation.
The scheme has been certainly suggested by the beautiful surroundings and landscapes in a luxuriant nature making it worthwhile to climb the steep paths along the beech forests to enjoy the sight of springing fresh waters, meadows and bare rocks. In this natural heaven, no great effort is required to get in healthy foodstuffs: gastronomy can choose among a variety of typical products supplied by local companies. Local hoteliers have recently undertaken special initiatives to promote their wood products (mushrooms and wild-berry preserves) or their streams, e.g. the Salmerino.
Training is another relevant aspect: training courses for hotel managers have been organised on the following subjects: the reduction of tourist accommodation environmental impacts; natural resource use, the promotion of typical products, food and wines, diet, hospitality and historical and cultural features of the Park and the surrounding areas.
