Delta del Po

The Project - The co-operation among Legambiente Emilia-Romagna, the Regional Park of the Delta del Po, FAITA of Emilia-Romagna and Industrial Association of the Province of Ferrara has also made it possible for campsites, which cover a considerable share in tourist accommodation, to join the recommended accommodations on account of their commitment to environmental protection with a set of specifically designed standards.

The Place - The Delta del Po Park includes large highly valuable natural areas, which so far have been spared the unrelenting pressure from man's economic activities along the coast of Emilia-Romagna. The headtown Comacchio is formed by 13 little islands united with 7 bridges. With its ancient language and its millenary experience in the old struggle of man for life in a difficult environment, the town evokes a picturesque atmosphere and reminds of fantastic old stories featuring old smugglers' and fishers' audacious enterprises. The visitor in entranced by the lagoon sliding among the houses and the ancient buildings such as the elegant Loggia dei Mercanti, the Loggia dei Cappuccini with its 142 arcades and the Trepponti, a bridge with 5 arcades and 2 towers. Here many fiction books and films have been staged for decades: among them, recently, one of the most accomplished crime stories from Eraldo Baldini and a film from Pupi Avati. This is the "place where the end and the beginning of time is neat and incontrovertible. This kind of suspension that made man feature the unknown".

Commitments undertaken by campsites joining the project introduce new specific elements, such as the co-operation with public authorities in protecting both the land in general and campsite surroundings with substantial actions to clean up areas, roads, tracks within the campsite's premises; promotion of healthy food and typical products among shops and restaurants within campsites; gradual substitution of indigenous plant and bush species when new planting is needed, following the directions of the Delta del Po Park authorities; promotion and use of low impact transport means and repair shops for servicing bicycles and boats. Besides garbage sorting, campsites managers commit to co-operate to the proper disposal of exhausted batteries and waste oil. These additional standards are added to the General Guidelines applying to seaside resorts.
