The Park of Gessi Bolognesi
The Project - Legambiente with the support of the Province of Bologna and the Regional Parks of Emilia Romagna (including Abbazia di Monteveglio, Gessi Bolognesi, Laghi di Suviana and Brasimone, Monte Sole and Corno alle Scale) has launched a new sustainable tourism initiative. Its objective is to promote a feasible accommodation model for mountain areas which offers country life, sports, spas, gourmet food and wine, natural and cultural assets, recreation and fun.
This scheme for the establishment of an eco-friendly tourist accommodation network in mountain and hill areas, with environmental quality as marking feature, may be considered a national prototype applying to all areas involved in the APE (Apennine Park of Europe).
The place - Under the guidance of Legambiente and the Park of Gessi Bolognesi and Calanchi dell'Abbadessa, a handful of tourist establishments in the park area (Pianoro, Ozzano Emilia and S. Lazzaro di Savena) has started a project of "Recommended Accommodation Structures on account of their commitment to environmental protection" within a stone's throw from Bologna. The most innovative feature is the presence of farmhouse accommodation, Bed & Breakfast, a youth hostel and other establishments mainly working as restaurants and campsites.
These multifunctional accommodation structures are able to meet with different needs: they give guests the opportunity to join guided visits to naturalistic, speleological and archaeological places, to attend to other artistic or cultural activities, to have fun or to go in for sports (horse-riding and bow-shooting) or, more simply, to enjoy a quiet rest when coming back from fairs or other hectic business activities in Bologna.
In pledging to observe the Guidelines by Legambiente and to accept regular controls by its experts, tourist accommodation operators undertake to improve their guests' stay from an environmental point of view. The well-known Emilia-Romagna hospitality will combine with a proper use of natural resources, the promotion of typical products, dishes and wines, meals prepared with healty foodstuffs, the care-taking of the environmental area close to business premises, the promotion of historical, cultural and environmental features of the Park and close areas, noise abatement, encouragement in using public transport, waste, energy and water reduction.
