Ravenna and Lidi The Project - The recommended hotels in Ravenna and Lidi are introduce a sustainable tourism experience into an area where economic and territorial development starts meeting with environmental preservation and restoration needs. The Place - Despite the troublesome presence of a large petrochemical industry, several valuable naturalistic aspects and the artistic jewels of the city of Ravenna are a plus for the local community and land-associated business activities such as tourism. Tourist activities rest upon an environment of unequalled beauty, partly belonging to the Regional Park of the Po Delta. The Touring's Club Blue Guide, edited with the cooperation of Legambiente, has included the "Bassona" shore between Ravenna and Cervia - among Italy's most beautiful beaches. Unfortunately, the large beautiful pine-wood stretching behind the beach has been repeatedly set to fire by firebugs and has been partly destroyed. Among other valuable spots on the shore is the Beach and Dune facing the former International Red Cross Holiday Home in Marina di Ravenna: several ten thousand people have recently gathered together to preserve this 450-meter long beach which in the last few decades has reverted to its natural sandbank environment. The beach of Marina Romea, with a 2-km long stretch sheltered by the State Forest Reserve, and the shoals of Piallassa and Baiona, home to herons, pink flamingos and other rare birds, are also noteworthy. Commitments - Hotel managers undertake to achieve the following commitments: waste reduction; the recycling of materials through garbage sorting; water saving; installation of energy saving lamps; the serving of meals prepared with foodstuffs containing neither chemicals nor genetically modified organisms (as far as it is known). All parties pledge to jointly press for an incentive policy for environmentally friendly behaviours, which includes new regulations and tax allowances to help meet with the quality standards required by this project.
