Rimini

The Project - Two protocol agreements have been signed by Legambiente - respectively with the Rimini Hotel Association and the Small Hotels of Quality Consortium - to implement the "Recommended Hotels on Account of their Commitment to Environment Protection" scheme in Rimini. A significant number of hotels have since joined this scheme.

The Place - At the end of the Marecchia River, Rimini is definitely the most renowned town in the Adriatic Coast and parades its long shore and endless hotel skyline. But Rimini has two clashing souls: from Marina Centro, an extensive sprawling of modern buildings along the sea promenade, where Fellini's Grand Hotel stands out in glory, Principe Amedeo Avenue takes uptown, a small treasure of arts, history and urban life. Among several outstanding monuments from Roman and Renaissance times (the Arc of August, old Tiberius' Bridge leading to the restored fishermen's borough of S. Giuliano, the Malatesta Temple and the Sismondo Castle), the Statue of Pope Paul V still dominates Cavour Square with its ancient Fish Market, as a memorial of the long papal rule. A cycle ride trough the park along the old ramparts leads to the seashore again and to the trendy entertainment places at the Harbour.

The Commitments -A training phase by Legambiente provided hoteliers with all necessary information to improve their businesses' environmental management. Businesses accept the Guidelines by Legambiente Turismo with its annual on-site verification procedure and commit to address some critical environmental areas: waste reduction and separate collection to favour recycling and decrease in energy and water consumption levels. Other criteria - food safety and quality with the offer of organic products in menus and breakfast, local gastronomy, light mobility, noise abatement, information and promotion of natural and built heritage - give tourists a better choice, encourage them to behave eco-friendly and improve both their awareness and their holiday. A booklet explaining Legambiente Turismo ecolabel is available in every room. Guests are also given a simple customer card where they can express their satisfaction (or dissatisfaction) on this scheme and their hotel's performance.
